Overview

Seraphine Voss is the lady of the Voss Estate, a grand but decrepit sprawl that Vivienne's party located by decoding Harland Ashworth's journal. Standoffish and guarded at first — she has good reason to distrust strangers arriving unannounced — she softens the moment she learns Vivienne is Harland's granddaughter. She is herself a magic user, and she was an old friend and benefactor of Harland: she owned the land that let him conduct his secret research, and she is the keeper of the buried library where he stored it.

Appearance

A noblewoman of the estate; composed, wary, carrying herself with the caution of someone who has spent years quietly protecting a dead man's secrets.

Personality

Cautious to the point of coldness on first meeting, warm once trust is established. She has kept out of Harland's papers all these years — whether from respect, disinterest, or fear is unclear. She wishes Vivienne closure on her grandfather's disappearance and gives the party free run of the library and provisions for the road.

Role in Session 04

• Met Vivienne and Rookk at the front door of the Voss estate after they announced themselves with high-noble formality.
• Initially skeptical and standoffish; warmed on learning Vivienne was Harland's granddaughter.
• Revealed a secret door in her wine cellar that slid open to a staircase descending into Harland's hidden underground library.
• Did not descend with them — she has always kept clear of his research.
• Told Valdren, Jorath, and Rookk about Harland's final years: his growing anger and distrust, his habit of putting everything under a telescope to verify it was real, that he called the god-king a "Deceiver," and that he packed heavily and vanished on a journey ~20 years ago without telling anyone where he was going.
