Overview

Calthar (also transcribed Kaelothar, Kalthar) is a ruined advanced civilization far beyond the walls of Caligo, in the wastelands. Harland Ashworth located it by following a single constellation and left detailed field notes about it in his buried library. The party has not yet been there — it is their ultimate destination, reachable with Harland's star chart and the magic lens for navigation.

Spelling note: the name was said several ways at the table (Calthar / Kaelothar / Kalthar). Standardized here as Calthar.

What Harland's Notes Describe

• An advanced civilization now in ruins — possibly elven land from before the elves were exterminated.
• Preserved warforged frames fused with biological material, echoing the chitin-arm sketches that match EMBR's "Lefty."
• A sealed lower level that requires a specific key/artifact to open — the same artifact Harland traced to the Crail estate in the Fold.

Open Questions

• Was Calthar elven land before the god-king Rimalath's regime? Did Rimalath himself come from there?
• What is behind the sealed level?
• Did Harland reach it on his final journey — and did he die there?
• What does Calthar reveal about EMBR's origin?

Role in Session 07

• Harland's journal says reaching Calthar took him a handful of weeks. The party may go faster with his notes and the artifact.
• There are no settlements beyond the walls to resupply from. The party bought three five-day ration bundles in Farrow and plans to hunt and forage.
• The artifact's provenance points outward. It came into Caligo decades ago with wasteland travelers of mixed races.

Status

Unvisited. The party is at the foot of the outer wall in Farrow, with the artifact, and is working out how to get over.
