Farrow
It is not glamorous. It is not exciting. It is not even something anyone wants to do. It is a tax upon the people.
Overview
Farrow is a poor farming canton at the very foot of the outer wall, about half a day's careful ride north of Ashmark. Rookk remembered it from his garrison years as a place where travelers stopped to rest and resupply. It was the party's last stop before trying to leave Caligo.
Farrow is polite, brief, and friendly to newcomers. It also nails a thorned-and-toothed iron sigil over half its doors, and at night part of it walks north in chains. See The Thorn and the Tooth.
Appearance
Low buildings of weathered stone and wood. Farmland. Many people in rags and many houses in disrepair, a tired place with no money in it. There is no jeweler, because nobody here could buy anything from one.
Behind it stands the wall. From Farrow it is not on the horizon. It is the horizon, filling the whole sky, running left and right as far as anyone can see.
A statue of King Rimalath stands in the town square. Smaller thorn-and-tooth discs lie among the offerings at its base, which look more like things left on a grave than gifts to a king.
What's Here
| Place | Notes |
|---|---|
| Crane & Co. | Apothecary run by Crane. Restorative draughts, a sedative calming draught, an herbal antitoxin, healer's kits, and a rack of thorn-and-tooth talismans. |
| Hollis & Ren | General store run by Bram Hollis. Rope, rations, waterskins, bedrolls, lanterns, climbing kits, and a rack of about twenty talismans at a copper each. |
| The forge | Seen from the square. Not visited. |
| The Last Lamp | Inn and tavern, "the crown jewel of Farrow." A bear rug before a big hearth, plush chairs, clean open windows. Run by an older, weathered barkeep who pegged Rookk as ex-garrison, told him about the lift, and gave him a free room in return for delivering a basket. Thompson and Hollis both recommended it. |
| The maintenance lift | Off the north road toward the wall, where it bears east. "Officially, it's broken." The barkeep warned against using it at night. Not yet visited. |
| The hermit's shack | Along the same road. A woman who lives alone and takes poor care of herself. Not yet visited. |

The Wall Above Farrow
Scouted by Jorath's hawk at dusk in Session 07:
- Two garrison soldiers every ten feet, and an alarm bell every twenty.
- Cannons on rails aimed outward into the fog.
- Ballistae and crossbows against things that fly.
- Officers carrying flare guns and long rifles.
Role in Session 07
- The party arrived in the afternoon, past unusually heavy and agitated patrols.
- Vivienne, disguised as a garrison soldier, traded one of Crail's rings at Crane & Co. for two Surgeon's Reserves and a calming draught, and was given a talisman.
- Valdren looked for Resistance signs and found only the thorn-and-tooth discs. He met Thompson.
- Jorath and EMBR bought rations and two talismans from Bram Hollis, who froze at the sight of Lefty.
- Rookk learned about the lift and took on the hermit's basket at the Last Lamp.
- That night EMBR watched about twenty branded people, some in shackles, walk north down the street by candlelight, and several of them saw him in the window.
Status
The party is spending the night at the Last Lamp, and the procession has seen them. Their plan for the morning is to go north, find the hermit, and look at the lift.
